Each successful science student has had a teacher who ignited his/her interest in science. SCIENCEMASTER will dramatically increase the number of knowledgeable and inspiring science teachers who energize students, motivate colleagues, and improve achievement in science. Manatee District K-12th grade teachers will have the opportunity to apply to earn a “FREE”
Masters of Science degree in Science Education or Space Science Education through Nova Southeastern University or Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. This opportunity will provide greater access to resources available through world class partnerships and is made possible through a DOE grant awarded to the district and approved by the School Board on July 9, 2007.
The goals of the SCIENCEMASTER grant are to elevate science teachers' skills and enthusiasm so dramatically that it lifts students, their interest, knowledge, and science achievement. SCIENCEMASTER will develop and launch five online tools that will boost 2,500 teachers in the Manatee School District and 25 other rural counties or schools. The five online science tools for teacher professional development will include:
| 1 |
Science Teacher - A website & eLibrary resource for 2,500 teachers |
| 2 |
Science Lift-Off - A survey to determine the best professional development trajectory |
| 3 |
