PUBLIC INVITED TO PARTICIPATE (Bradenton, FL - October 7, 2008) The public is invited to take part in the search for a new Superintendent of Manatee County Schools as five finalists interview for the position. Current Superintendent Dr. Roger Dearing is retiring in January to become the Executive Director of the Florida High School Athletic Association. Each of the five finalists will be guests at a reception designed to give the public, school district employees and community leaders a chance to meet and speak with each of the candidates. In addition, the public is invited to sit in on interviews conducted by the Manatee County School Board. The five finalists, recommended by a citizens' committee and approved by the School Board are: Dr. Nicholas Gledich, Chief Operations Officer of Orange County Public Schools; Dr. Luis Gonzalez, Superintendent of the Mathis Independent School District in San Patricio County, Texas; Dr. Brenda Magee, Assistant Superintendent of the School District of Palm Beach County; Ken Marsh, Director of Long Range Planning for the School District of Sarasota County; and Tim McGonegal, Assistant Superintendent for Business Services for the Manatee County School District.

Thursday, October 23, 2008 Once the five interviews are concluded, the School Board is expected to deliberate and announce its top choice for the position. The starting date for the new Superintendent will be determined during contract negotiations with the School Board. The School Support Center is located at 215 Manatee Avenue West, in Bradenton.
