MTI Graduate Really Going Places (BRADENTON FL - November 15th, 2006) Manatee Technical School graduate Max Rose is going places - literally. Although he just turned 21, Max has already worked three years for the Hyatt Hotel Corporation in Paris, France, Beaver Creek, Colorado and Washington, D.C. Just recently, he sought and earned a position as a flight attendant with US Airways. He begins training for his new career in just a few weeks. Max says he owes a lot of the success in his young career to MTI's Academy of Travel and Tourism and to his instructor at MTI, Linda Owens. “Ms. Owens will do anything for her students,” Max said. “Every instructor should be like that because she gave me insight into the career I was always dreaming about. Every time I come back to Bradenton I stop by to say thank you to Ms. Owens. Every time.” So, on Monday, October 30th, Max stopped by his old classroom at MTI to see Ms. Owens and to speak to her current students. He spoke to the students about job opportunities and his real-life experiences working in the travel industry. Amber Silva, one of Ms. Owens' current students, said Max's talk gave her good insight as she tries to decide whether she wants to pursue a career as a flight attendant, a cruise attendant, or possibly work as a travel agent. “He gave us good information because he has experience we don't have,” Silva said. “With his help, I can better choose what I want to do.” A native of France, Max came to Bradenton to be with his father four years ago. While he was here, he learned about the Travel and Tourism Academy at MTI. “I always wanted to study the travel and tourism industry and I found Ms. Owens' class,” Max said. “My program was a one year program.” Ms. Owens said she couldn't help but notice Max's enthusiasm. “He was a wonderful student and I knew he would do very well in the industry,” she said. “I knew he had the potential to do anything he wanted to do.” After graduating from MTI, maxed returned to Europe and spent a summer season working at an all-inclusive resort in Greece. He then took a job with Hyatt Hotels and was working as the front office supervisor for a hotel in Washington, D.C. until he landed his new position as a flight attendant. Max said he really enjoyed speaking to Ms. Owens' current class. “I was where they are three years ago and I can feel what they are feeling,” Max said. “They don't have any experience but they want to try the travel industry. I can tell them they can do it and Ms. Owens will help them.” Ms. Owens said Max's success can serve as inspiration for her current class. “It's a wonderful experience for the current students to hear what former students have done with their lives and how they've gone out into the industry and excelled and enjoy what they are doing,” she said.
