BRADENTON - A redistricting committee comprised of more than 60 parents, teachers and school administrators will begin the process of drawing boundaries for two new elementary schools on Tuesday, September 26, with an organizational meeting in the Media Center of Witt Elementary. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The committee - charged with drawing school attendance zones for Elementary Schools F and G - is made up of representatives from the school district and other elementary schools expected to be impacted by the new boundaries. Both Elementary Schools F and G are scheduled to open in August 2007.

Existing elementary schools which will have parents, teachers and administrators serving on the redistricting committee include: Blackburn, Braden River, Duette, Freedom, McNeal, Mills, Myakka City and Witt.

One thing that makes this redistricting effort unique is that one committee will oversee the redistricting of two schools. The reason for the combined effort is because both schools are being built in fast-growing East Manatee which impacts all of the schools taking part in the process.

As in other recent redistricting efforts, the full redistricting committee will be broken into three smaller committees: A, B and C. Each smaller committee will draw up its own redistricting proposals for both new schools and present them to Superintendent Dr. Roger Dearing. The proposals will then be presented to the School Board in a workshop session and explained at the various school sites during School Advisory Council Meetings.

The School Board is scheduled to make a final determination on the new boundaries during a public hearing at Witt on December 4, 2006.
