September 28th, 2006 BRADENTON - Young minds and art make a magical combination. That's the idea behind a local program that will provide 500 Manatee School District 5th graders with an interactive learning experience at ArtCenter Manatee, located at 209 9th Street West in downtown Bradenton. Known as “ArtReach,” the program is free of charge to local students thanks to a grant sponsored by the Manatee Education Foundation and the Target Stores Community Giving Program. Participation in the program is available to district 5th-grade classes on a first-come, first-serve basis. While at the ArtCenter, students will receive hands-on experience working with clay in the Pottery Studio; they'll do their own drawings in the KidsArt Studio and they will have an opportunity to tour the center's galleries while conversing with a professional artist. The curriculum used during the ArtReach visit was developed through coordination and cooperation between the school district and ArtCenter Manatee. “This is a great opportunity for children in our community to get exposure to different mediums of art,” said Heather Panipinto, Assistant Director of ArtCenter Manatee. “We hope the children who come through this program will become more creative and find that art exists in lots of different activities.” Scheduled Dates for ArtReach Visits September 29 For further information contact ArtCenter Manatee at 746-2862. |
