PARENT UNIVERSITY STRIVES TO CONNECT FAMILIES FOR SCHOOL SUCCESS
(Bradenton, FL - April 8, 2008) Open to parents of elementary, middle and high school students from all over Manatee County, the district´s Parent University offers a wide variety of ways for parents to help their children become more successful in school. Available at no charge, the Parent University is scheduled for this Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Braden River High School, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The Parent University will include more than 50 breakout sessions or workshops led by district leaders and educational experts. Three of the workshops will be entirely in Spanish. Titles of some of the workshops include:
- Is My Child Gifted?
- Things to Know About School Safety and Security
- Understanding Your Child´s FCAT Results
- Supporting Your Early Reader at Home
- Test Anxiety
- MYSPACE for parents
“We´re looking forward to a wonderful day where parents will learn ways to become a strong partner in their child´s education,” said Dr. Sheila Mungillo, head of Parental Involvement for the School District and an organizer of the Parent University. “The Parent University will include information parents can use to help their children academically, behaviorally and socially.”
