EXPERT ON UNDERSTANDING POVERTY AND ITS IMPACT ON
EDUCATION SET TO SPEAK TO DISTRICT EMPLOYEES

(Bradenton, FL. - February 11, 2008) Ruby Payne, Ph.D., a noted expert on poverty and its impact on learning, will address more than 300 school teachers, administrators and school-district employees during a seminar scheduled for Wednesday, February 13, 2008 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Manatee Civic Center. The title of Dr. Payne's seminar is the same as a book she authored: A Framework for Understanding Poverty.

A professional educator since 1972, Dr. Payne uses humor, engaging stories and an accessible speaking style to deliver a powerful message about poverty and the mindsets of economic classes. On Wednesday evening, Dr. Payne will deliver a related message in an address open to the public from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Raymond Full Gospel Baptist Church, located at 2401 Fourth Avenue East in Palmetto.

Dr. Payne's visit to Manatee County is sponsored by the School District's Department of Professional Development.
