GOVERNOR CRIST SPONSORS ESSAY CONTEST ON THE VIRTUES OF OPEN GOVERNMENT
(Bradenton, FL. - February 22, 2008) Celebrating government in the sunshine is the topic of a statewide essay contest for high school students sponsored by Florida Governor Charlie Crist. Any student in grades 9-12 can enter an essay in the
contest in which students are asked to address the topic: “What role does open government play within a democratic society and a democratic government?”
The essays must be no longer than 500 words and postmarked no later than 5 p.m. EST, Monday, March 3, 2008. The essays must be accompanied by a parental waiver stating that the work was produced solely by the student and should be e-mailed
to sunshineessay@myflorida.com, or mailed to Executive Office of the Governor: Sunshine Week Essay Contest, 400 S. Monroe Street, Suite LL08, Tallahassee, FL 32399-0001.
The first-place winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship, the second-place winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship and the third-place winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship. The winners will be awarded their scholarships at the
