MILLER ELEMENTARY CELEBRATES MAJOR MILESTONE ON MONDAY, MARCH 3rd
(Bradenton, FL. - February 28, 2008) Located on the bustling corner of Manatee Avenue and 43rd Street West in Bradenton, Jessie P. Miller Elementary School has long been one of the Manatee District's most visible schools. On Monday, March 3, 2008, Miller Elementary will
celebrate a milestone in its history when the school family and community come together for a rededication ceremony of its totally rebuilt campus. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Originally built and dedicated in 1951, the former school building was replaced with a brand new, two-story, state-of-the art facility that covers 100,780 square feet and can accommodate 869 students. The total project cost for the new building was $20.9 million.
Superintendent Dr. Roger Dearing and Principal Chuck Banks are scheduled to host the ceremony along with other district officials, including School Board Chairwoman Barbara Harvey, who served as principal at Miller from 1980 to 1990. During Harvey's tenure at Miller,
a bell tower was constructed in the front of the school and it became a much-loved landmark. Although the old bell tower was demolished with the rest of the old school, the bell now has a special home in the lobby of the new school building.
