“READ ACROSS MANATEE” TO CELEBRATE LITERACY
(Bradenton, FL - February 29, 2008) Guest readers from within the school district and around the community will take part in “Read Across Manatee” March 4th,
a time devoted to the celebration of reading in our classrooms. Volunteers, including members of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team, have made arrangements with individual schools to donate their time to read. Several Rays personalities plan to visit classes as follows:
Andy Freed - Radio Broadcasting “Voice of the RAYS”
9:00 a.m. at Miller Elementary
Barry Jones - Community Relations Representative
10:30 a.m. at Braden River Elementary
Dan Newhart - Group Sales Account Executive
1:30 p.m. at Ballard Elementary
Sandy Dengler - Director of Major League Administration
10:00 a.m. at Palma Sola Elementary
The School Board recently adopted the day as a time for the community to reflect on the importance of literacy. A poem on literature that promotes the event states:
“You are never too old, too whacky, too wild, To pick up a book and read with a child.”
“Read Across Manatee” is part of a national awareness campaign called “Read Across America” that encourages reading as an essential part of daily life for people of all ages.
