SEVEN DIFFERENT DRAMA DEPARTMENTS TO TAKE
PART IN 8TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE FESTIVAL

(Bradenton, FL. - January 28, 2008) Drama students representing seven local high schools will come together to showcase their talents on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the 8th Annual Manatee County High School Theatre Festival.

During the festival, each respective drama department will perform a portion of a play they have selected. Students from each school are responsible for setting up the stage, performing the play and then tearing down the set. More than 150 local students and drama instructors are scheduled to participate in the performances during the festival.

Formerly known as the One Act Play Festival, this year's theatre festival will be held at the Manatee High School Auditorium. Manatee High School is located at 902 33rd St. Ct. West, in Bradenton.

The festival will be held in two sessions with the first performance beginning at 9 a.m. The afternoon session is scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and a $2 donation per person is requested with all proceeds to be returned to the school drama departments.

The host school, Manatee High, will be the first drama department to take the stage during the morning session and will perform a portion of the play Tartuffe. Palmetto High will be next up with a performance from Just Another High School Play. Saint Stephen's Episcopal School will follow with a selection from Welcome To The Monkey House while Southeast High will complete the morning session with a sample from English Made Simple.

Manatee School for the Arts will be the first school on the stage for the second session, performing selections from The Diary of Ann Frank and The Miss Firecracker Contest. Lakewood Ranch High will follow with a portion of A New Musical and Bayshore High will close the festival with a sample of Let Me Hear You Whisper.

This year's Manatee High School Theatre Festival is being sponsored by the Tropicana Federal Credit Union, The Herald Tribune, The Manatee Players, the School District of Manatee County and the Manatee Education Foundation.
