LOCKHEED MARTIN SPONSORS DISTRICT TSA COMPETITION
THIS SATURDAY AT LAKEWOOD RANCH HIGH

(Bradenton, FL. - January 28, 2008) More than 300 of the Manatee School District's most innovative and enterprising students will flock to Lakewood Ranch High School this Saturday, February 2, 2008, to take part in the Lockheed Martin Technology Student Association's District Competition. The competition is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will include students representing district middle schools and high schools.

Some of the competitive events students will take part in include:

  • Cyberspace Pursuit: Participants are required to design, create and launch a web site that features the school's technology education program.
  • Dragster Design: Participants design, produce working drawings for, and build a CO2-powered dragster.
  • Flight Endurance: Participants analyze flight principles with a rubber band-powered model aircraft.
  • Structural Engineering: Participants work as part of a team, with supplied materials, to build a model of a structure that is destructively tested to determine design efficiency.

“Manatee is the only school district in Florida to hold a local TSA competition,” said Doug Wagner, Director of Adult, Career and Technical Education. “The winners of this competition will go to the state competition to be held in Orlando in April. Manatee County has had more winners at the state competition than any other district each of the last three years.”

The Technology Student Association is a national organization devoted to encouraging students who have a talent and passion for technology. Local and national TSA competitions are sponsored by educators, parents and business leaders who recognize the need for developing future leaders for the field of technology. Winners of state TSA contests advance to a national competition to be held in Orlando in the summer.
