MANATEE EDUCATION FOUNDATION CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY WITH FRIEND RAISER
(Bradenton, FL. - January 31, 2008) The Manatee Education Foundation was established in 1988 by former School Board member Marjorie G. Kinnan to support public education in Manatee County. On Thursday,
February 7, 2008, the Foundation will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a Friend Raiser, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bradenton Yacht Club. The public is invited to attend the event which will feature food and live music
from Shaman. A $50 donation per person is requested with all proceeds to benefit the Foundation.
The mission of the Foundation is accomplished by identifying important needs of the public school system and by addressing those needs through the generous support of the private sector. The Foundation provides funding for college
and technical scholarships and for innovative educational experiences through the Cash for Classroom Teacher Grant program and other endeavors. Annual fundraisers for the Foundation include “Support Education” specialty license plates,
employee payroll deductions, the Phil Galvano Golf Classic (scheduled for May 16, 2008) and the heART & Soul Gala and Live Art Auction (scheduled for November 21, 2008).
Marjorie Kinnan taught in Manatee County schools from 1966-1976. In 1976, Mrs. Kinnan was elected to the Manatee County School Board, where she served for 16 years, including three years as the board chair.
In 1998, the school district named an elementary school in her honor. Her son, Harry Kinnan, currently serves on the Manatee County School Board.
