OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS TO BE RECOGNIZED AT CELEBRATION TUESDAY MORNING
(Bradenton, FL - May 19, 2008) With more than 3,700 volunteers contributing over 130,000 hours this year, the Manatee School District is extremely grateful to the dedicated citizens who generously give of their time to make a difference in the lives of our students.
To show our appreciation, the district is proud to partner with Office Max to present the Helping Students Do Their Best Work 2008 Outstanding Volunteer Awards. The awards ceremony and a celebration breakfast will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Freedom Village, located at 6501 17th Ave. W., in Bradenton.
More than 40 volunteers from across Manatee County will be recognized at the awards ceremony. All of the volunteers to be honored were recommended for recognition by their individual schools. Three volunteers will be recognized for their exceptional service. Those volunteers are:
Priscilla Ortiz, Youth Volunteer of the Year - A senior at Southeast High School, Priscilla is an assertive young woman who helps students at Wakeland Elementary with their reading skills and by offering assistance to students on a one-on-one basis.
Sharri Cagle, Adult Volunteer of the Year - A parent at Freedom Elementary School, Sharri organized and spearheaded an effort to build the "Let Freedom Ring Courtyard" at the school as a memorial to our military and first responders.
Klaas Lindenmuler, Senior Volunteer of the Year - A literacy and math tutor at Manatee Technical Institute, Klaas helps adult students raise their proficiency levels in basic education classes so they can graduate from MTI and seek advanced employment in technical fields.
A valued Business Partner with the Manatee District, Office Max is helping to cover the cost for the volunteer awards celebration and will help present awards to the recipients.
