OVER 600 LOCAL KIDS READY TO RUN AND JUMP AT ELEMENTARY TRACK MEET

More than 600 students representing 15 local elementary schools are scheduled to compete in the Manasota Elks Elementary Track Meet this Saturday, April 12, 2008 on the track at Braden River High School beginning at 9 a.m. Sponsored by the Manasota Elks and Children´s Therapy Solutions, the elementary school track meet encourages kids to get involved in sports and other healthy activities. STUDENTS EAGER TO SHOWCASE TALENTS AT ROWLETT ARTS FESTIVAL

Students at Rowlett Elementary will display dancing, drama, music and other artistic talents when the school hosts the Rowlett Arts Festival this Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All of the performances will center around the school´s year-long theme: “Let´s Make a Difference.” Rowlett is located at 3500 9th Street East. MANATEE SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS CELEBRATES FLORIDA HISTORY WEEK

Florida History Week will take center stage at Manatee School for the Arts during the week of April 14-18, 2008. Each day during the week students at the school will honor Florida´s history with stage performances or art gallery exhibits. A special evening show for parents and the public will be held Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m. Manatee School for the Arts is located at 700 Haben Boulevard in Palmetto. GREAT FOOD AND FAMILY FUN HIGHLIGHT DUETTE ELEMENTARY FUNDRAISER

Fresh Fried Fish. Grits. Hushpuppies. Greens. Cornbread. Dessert. Coffe and Tea. That´s the menu that will be served when Duette Elementary holds its annual Fish Fry & Talent Show on Saturday, April 12, 2008. MILLS FRIENDS AND FAMILY NIGHT SET TO SEE THE STORM SLAY DRAGONS

Families and friends of Mills Elementary are heading to an Arena Football League game between the New York Dragons and the Tampa Bay Storm on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the St Pete Times Forum. Besides being a fundraising event for Mills, the evening promises to forge stronger bonds between families and staff at the school and reinforces the school´s theme for the year, “Taking the Adventure to Heart” which emphasizes the health benefits of exercise and sports. MEET LOCAL AUTHORS AND ILLUSTRATOR´S AT BUFFALO CREEK MIDDLE

Students, parents and the community are invited to meet and interact with local authors when Buffalo Creek Middle School hosts its Authors and Illustrator´s Night on Thursday, April 17, 2008 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will be held in the school´s gymnasium and will provide information on writing, publishing or illustrating your own book. PARENT UNIVERSITY OFFERS FREE TIPS TO HELP STUDENTS SUCCEED IN SCHOOL

Parents and guardians can learn a wide variety of ways to help their children become better students by taking part in the Manatee School District´s Parent University on Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 8 a.m. to noon at Braden River High School. The Parent University is free and open to the public. This year´s Parent University will offer more than 50 workshops on a variety of topics ranging from Internet Use and Safety for the Home, to Understanding the FCAT, to Surviving Middle School. Parents, guardians and the general public are encouraged to attend so they can gather important and practical information that can help children succeed in school.
