BAYSHORE HIGH STUDENTS AND STAFF OFFER HELP FOR GIRLS IN AFRICA

Girls are going to high school in Kenya because of the goodwill and generosity of the students and staff at Bayshore High School. Over the last two years, the Bayshore High family has raised more than $4,000 for CANRAD (Canada/Kenya Rarieda Development Program), which provides tuition, school uniforms, school supplies, board and other items for girls who would not be able to go to high school otherwise. Bayshore students and staff have raised the funds through donations and by events such as students versus staff volleyball and basketball games. For more information, contact Bayshore Assistant Principal Elizabeth Howard at 751-7004.

PLAY AT SOUTHEAST HIGH PROVIDES INSIGHT INTO LOW-INCOME LIFESTYLE

Southeast High School's Visual and Performing Arts Academy will present a production of Nickel and Dimed, based on a book by journalist Barbara Ehrenreich. In the book, Ehrenreich experiences first-hand the difficulties of trying to subsist in America when working in a variety of low-wage jobs. After each performance students will lead post-play discussions with audience members and invited groups such as Meals on Wheels and the Florida Coalition for the Homeless. Performances begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 through Friday, March 14, 2008. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students; however you can save a dollar on admission by bringing a canned food donation. For more information, contact Southeast Drama Teacher Jason Schiessl at 741-3366.

'READ ACROSS MANATEE' BRINGS LOCAL AUTHOR TO MOODY ELEMENTARY

Kremer wrote Snow in Sarasota, a mystery novel about teens who encounter adventures when they try to find out if it has ever snowed in Sarasota on Christmas. For more information, contact Holly Oler at 741-3170.
