FRIDAY´S FILM RUSH 2008 SHOWCASES DISTRICT´S BEST YOUNG FILMMAKERS
The best young filmmakers in the Manatee School District will get a chance to share their work with the public during Film Rush 2008, to be held this Friday, March 21, 2008 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. a the South Florida Museum. Students across the district were allowed to submit films in a variety of categories including Narrative, Documentary, Experimental, Animated and more. The best films were selected for screening by a jury of distinguished local judges. BUFFALO CREEK MIDDLE STUDENTS COMPETE IN ESSAY AND SPEECH CONTEST
This year´s presidential primaries have dramatically shown the importance of speaking and writing clearly and forcefully. Seventh-grade students at Buffalo Creek Middle School will showcase their talents in both of these areas when the school holds a Persuasive Essay and Speech Contest on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the school´s cafetorium. GREAT FOOD AND FAMILY FUN HIGHLIGHT DUETTE ELEMENTARY FUNDRAISER
Fresh Fried Fish. Grits. Hushpuppies. Greens. Cornbread. Dessert. Coffe and Tea. That´s the menu that will be served when Duette Elementary holds its annual Fish Fry & Talent Show on Saturday, April 12, 2008. The food will be served from noon to 5 p.m. and the talent show will begin at 6 p.m. This year the talent show will feature a Hannah Montana Look-a-Like Contest. PARENT UNIVERSITY OFFERS FREE TIPS TO HELP STUDENTS SUCCEED IN SCHOOL
Parents and guardians can learn a wide variety of ways to help their children become better students by taking part in the Manatee School District´s Parent University on Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 8 a.m. to noon at Braden River High School. The Parent University is free and open to the public. This year´s Parent University will offer more than 50 workshops on a variety of topics ranging from Internet Use and Safety for the Home, to Understanding the FCAT, to Surviving Middle School. Parents, guardians and the general public are encouraged to attend so they can gather important and practical information that can help children succeed in school.
