Manatee County Schools Gradebook (PIV)

Gradebook (PIV) is a web-based tool that allows parents and students to access grades, assignments and attendance information. This technology allows parents and students to view information reported directly from a teacher's grade book records via any Internet access at work or home. This is a secure, password-protected distribution of information. PIV is one of many methods used to enhance the sharing of information and communication between the schools, parents, and students. Parents are also encouraged to use this information to reinforce positive achievements in the classroom. Although PIV is a very useful tool, it is not intended to replace direct communication between teachers, parents, students, and other school staff. It is merely an additional tool. If you have questions about any of the information, please discuss it with your child first. Then have your child discuss it with their teachers. If you need further clarification, please contact the school or your child's teacher.

Obtaining a Password

The first step toward obtaining a password to access the program is to complete an application which can be obtained from the main office at your child's school. Your child may also request the application and bring it home to you. However, in an effort to preserve the confidentiality of student information, the application must be returned to your child's school in person and a photo identification must be presented in order to obtain your password.

Grading Information

Teachers are expected to update grades every two weeks. Grades are current as of the last entry made by the teacher. Many assignments and projects take considerable time to grade and may not be available for a week or more. Term grades are calculated by teachers' preferences, using either total points or weighted categories. Every teacher has a specific philosophy and methodology for assessing student performance. Parents should also be aware that teachers differ in the number of assignments, as well as the weighting of assignments, given over the course of a grading period. In addition, the types of assignments vary.

Missing Assignments are denoted by:
X (exempt) - not missing and not averaged into term grade.
Z - missing but can be made up and averaged as a zero in term grade.
Blank - still to be graded or made-up, and not yet averaged into term grade.
0 - Assignments that were turned in but received no credit.

The grading scale is as follows:
A = 100% - 90%, B = 89% - 80%, C = 79% - 70%, D = 69% - 60%, F - 59% and below.

Attendance Information

If you call to excuse an absence, this may not show up on the PIV for a day or two after the absence. Please be patient and double check the record before becoming alarmed. Attendance information is usually updated in the evening after school. Please note that there are always exceptions. If you have any questions, please contact the attendance office for clarification of the attendance data.
