Board members present: Barbara A. Harvey, Chairwoman;  Robert C. Gause, Harry G. Kinnan, and Jane R. Pfeilsticker.  Also present: Dr. Roger Dearing, Superintendent; Rob Shapiro, Staff Attorney; and John Bowen, School Board Attorney.

Not present:  Walter E. Miller.

2. Call to Order

Chairwoman Harvey called the Special Meeting to order at 4:03 p.m.

4. Approval to Terminate the Employment of Judy Vincent

Minutes: 

John Bowen, School Board Attorney, explained the proceedings of an evidentiary hearing.  He asked that the attorneys make an appearance, as follows:

 

Rob Shapiro on behalf of the Superintendent.  Scott Rieth on behalf of Ms. Vincent.

 

Mr. Bowen stated that the attorneys for the parties waived the right to submit post-hearing filings.

 

The attorneys for the parties stipulated that Composite Exhibit #1 be admitted into evidence.

 

Mr. Shapiro invoked the rule of sequestration, except for Dr. Roger Dearing, Superintendent, and Ms. Debra Horne, Office of Professional Standards Investigator.  Mr. Rieth agreed.

 

Chairwoman Harvey called for a recess at 5:55 p.m., and reconvened the Special Meeting at 6:17 p.m.

Witnesses testified on behalf of both parties.

 

The Board Members held discussion regarding this matter.

Motion Minutes: 

Following the vote on this matter, Mr. Bowen reviewed the post-hearing instructions, as follows:

The attorneys for the parties have until January 7, 2008, to file Proposed Final Orders with the Agency Clerk of the Manatee County School Board.

The Proposed Final Orders will be considered by the School Board at the regular meeting on January 14, 2008.  The attorneys for the parties will each have ten (10) minutes to address the School Board.
