Bright Futures Awards

  • Florida Academic Scholars Award (FAS) Requirements

    Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.5 weighted GPA using the credits listed below (GPAs are not rounded)

    Required Credits: Courses must include 16 credits of college preparatory academic courses:

    4 English (3 with substantial writing)

    4 Mathematics (Algebra I and above)

    3 Natural Science (2 with substantial labs)

    3 Social Science

    2 Foreign Language (in the same language)

    May use up to two additional credits form courses in the academic area listed above and/or AP, IB, or AICE fine arts courses to raise the GPA.

    Test Scores:  SAT 1290     ACT 29   (Note: The writing sections of the SAT and ACT will not be used in the composite)

    Community Service: 100 hours as approved by the district

    AICE Diploma recipients automatically receive this level of Bright Futures

    FAS Award Amounts:

    100% of tuition and applicable fees and $300 for both fall and spring semesters for additional educational expenses. Students attending a a nonpublic institution will receive a comparable amount as noted in the Private Award Chart on the Bright Futures website. FAS students can receive an award during the summer sessions to cover tuition and applicable fees, beginning with the 2018 summer term.

    Bonus:

    The top Florida Academic Scholar in each district is awarded a bonus per credit hour award. The rankings of the Academic Top Scholar are calculated using a formula based on the student’s Bright Futures GPA and SAT/ACT scores.

    ​Florida Medallion Scholars Award (FMS) Requirements

    Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.0 weighted GPA using the credits listed below (GPAs are not rounded)

    Required Credits: Courses must include 16 credits of college preparatory academic courses:

    4 English (3 with substantial writing)

    4 Mathematics (Algebra I and above)

    3 Natural Science (2 with substantial labs)

    3 Social Science

    2 Foreign Language (in the same language)

    May use up to two additional credits form courses in the academic area listed above and/or AP, IB, or AICE fine arts courses to raise the GPA.

    Community Service: 75 hours as approved by the district

    FMS Award Amounts:

    75% of tuition and applicable fees. Students attending a a nonpublic institution will receive a comparable amount as noted in the Private Award Chart on the Bright Futures website. FAS students can receive an award during the summer sessions to cover tuition and applicable fees, beginning with the 2019 summer term.

     

    Florida Gold Seal Vocational Award (GSV) Requirements

    Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.0 weighted GPA using the 16 core credits required for high school graduation with a four-year diploma (listed below) and a 3.5 unweighted GPA in a minimum of three technical education credits in one vocational program (GPAs are not rounded)

    Required Credits: Credits must include the 16 core credits required for high school graduation:

    4 English

    4 Mathematics (including Algebra I)

    3 Natural Science

    3 Social Science (American History, Western History, American Government and Economics)

    1 Fine Art

    HOPE (2 credits in JROTC can substitute for Fine Art and HOPE)

    Plus a minimum of three Vocational Job Preparatory or Technology Education Program Credits in one vocational program.

    Test Scores:  PERT: Reading 106, Math 114, Writing 103; SAT Before 3/1/16: Critical Reading 440, Math 440 SAT After 3/1/16 : Reading 24, Writing and Language Test 25, Math Test 24; ACT: English 17, Reading 19, Math 19

    Community Service: 30 hours as approved by the district

    Career Certificate Program (PSAV): Semester: $39 Quarter: $26 Clock: $1.30

    Applied Technology Diploma Program (ATD): Semester: $39 Quarter: $26 Clock: $1.30

    Technical Degree Education Program (AA, AAS, CCC): Semester: $48 Quarter: $32 Clock: $1.60

    Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS)*: Semester: $48 Quarter: $32

    * GSC recipients who earn a qualifying AS or AAS degree may receive an award toward a qualifying BS or BAS degree
