Advanced Spanish students tour Dali Museum

Michelle Rodriguez- Mustangs Ahead

ap field trip(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish classes visited the St. Petersburg’s Salvador Dali Museum on school field trip.

On April 17  a group of 22 AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature students and two teachers took a school bus to the museum. Upon arrival, the group toured the outdoor gardens and took pictures near the famous “Dali Mustache” statue.

Dali is a prominent figure in AP Spanish curriculum, serving as one of the greatest painters within his era.

Afterwards, the classes took part in the “Dali Alive 360 Experience,” an immersive art experience within the recently constructed “Dali Dome”. The group was able to watch his art recreated, painted, and learn history concerning Dali.

Mustang senior Leonardo Jiminez said, “Honestly, I’ve already done the dome experience, but doing it again was just as good. It’s so cool.”

The classes took a light lunch at the on-site cafe, indulging in authentic Hispanic dishes and their pick of a dessert. The gift shop tour was also available within lunch hours.

At 12 p.m, the students split into two groups and took a guided tour through the museum. Students learned more history regarding Dali, art, and surrealism.

LRHS AP Spanish teacher Ivana Klammer said, “Both my classes are looking at surrealism right now, it’s a very important concept in advanced Spanish. It’s complex, and often hard to understand. This experience makes it easier to understand I hope.”

The final part of the tour was an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience detailing the art of Dali. All students were given the opportunity to use an oculus headset.

Junior Julia Vendramini said, “I had a lot of fun and definitely learned a lot. Sometimes history isn’t the most interesting, but this history is.”
