Congressional member visits Nolan Middle and speaks to Civics students
Congressional representative Vern Buchanan (R-FL 16th District) met with young constituents at Nolan Middle School on Friday, February 9th.
Students asked the longtime U.S. Representative questions, everything from his thoughts on social media legislation to who he hopes wins Super Bowl LVIII.
They also asked what bill he would like to see passed, the most important bill he voted for that passed, and what a typical work day is like for a congressional member.
Rep. Buchanan allowed students to hold his special congressional voter ID card with only 435 in existence, which he uses to vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Deputy Director Tara Poulton rewarded students who answered civics-related questions correctly with a challenge coin.
The students presented Rep. Buchanan with handmade cards before his departure.
Afterward, School Board Member Richard Tatem spoke to students about holding a local government elected position.
