Young women from Manatee County lift their way to runner-up titles at state tournament

Three young women from Manatee County recently earned runner-up titles at the Girls Weighlifting State Championship in Lakeland. 

 

Congratulations to Payton Mangay-Ayam (154 lbs. Olympic & Traditional) and Jada Phillips (139 lbs. Olympic), both from Braden River High School, along with Sherrickia King from Palmetto High School (Unlimited Class). 

Braden River High School had 11 more student athletes place in the Top 20 for girls weightlifting in Florida. 

Lakewood Ranch High School took four weightlifters to the state final with three placing in the Top 10 including Alexis R. (7th place), Madison V. (8th place) and Julia B. (9th place). 

From Manatee High School, Mia W. earned 10th place. 

Parrish Community High School's Zoey M. finished in 6th place. 

Additionally, three athletes from Southeast High School brought home three Top 10 medals from the championship. Congrats to Angeline C. (6th place-Olympic & Traditional), La'Juria Thomas (6th place-Olympic, 7th place-Traditional) and Madie P. (10th place-Traditional). 

All Manatee County high schools had student athletes participate in the event.
