Manatee County boys' weightlifters hold top spots at FHSAA State Championships

History was made at the 2024 FHSAA Boys Weightlifting State Championship, as some Manatee County student athletes brought home hardware and set school records.

The event took place April 19-20 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. Congratulations to the athletes, coaches, and their supporters!


Braden River High School (Class 2A)

The Pirates finished 7th in Florida – the greatest finish in program history for Braden River.

A total of nine student athletes qualified and competed in states.

  • Anthony D., a 119-lb. lifter, finished 3rd in the Olympic event and 5th in the Traditional event.
  • Jake K., a 154-lb. lifter, placed 3rd in the Olympic event.
  • Ronin D., a 199-lb. lifter, finished 7th in the Traditional event and 8th in the Olympic event.
  • Christian F., a 238-lb. lifter, placed 10th in the Olympic event.
  • Nick M. finished 7th in the UNL Olympic weightlifting event.

 


Lakewood Ranch High School (Class 3A)

  •  Evan B. placed 9th in the Traditional event (219-lb.)

Manatee High School (Class 3A)

The Hurricanes had seven weightlifters qualify for the state meet, most of whom finished in the Top Ten for their weight class.

  • Alex P. earned 3rd place in the Olympic event and 6th place in Traditional (238-lb.).
  • Ty K. finished 9th in Traditional and 10th in Olympic (129-lb.).
  • Travon P. earned 7th place in the Olympic event and 8th place in Traditional (219-lb.).
  • Ean J-K earned 7th place in the UNL Olympic event and 10th in the UNL Traditional event.
  • Ty’Reek R. finished 8th place in the UNL Olympic event and 9th place in the UNL Traditional event.


Palmetto High School (Class 3A)

The Tigers also placed 7th in the state overall.

Four student athletes qualified for the state competition.

  • Kale B. is now a triple threat, earning his third straight State Championship title, for his performance in the 169-lb. Olympic event.

According to Palmetto High’s Facebook page, he brought home the gold, just in time to make it – and wear it – to prom.  

  • Tyson T. earned 6th place in the 139-lb. Olympic, and 7th place in the Traditional events.
  • Trey B. finished 6th place in the 183-lb. Olympic event.

Parrish Community High School (Class 2A)

  • Chase E. placed 7th in the Traditional event and 10th in the Olympic event (119-lb).
