Sugg Middle School students create and donate upcycled toys for local shelter dogs

How paw-some! Nine students from Mrs. Genewick’s gifted class at Sugg Middle School created 100 tug toys for local shelter dogs.

These photos were shared by the Humane Society of Manatee County.

Sugg staff donated old t-shirts and students upcycled them by cutting them into strips, stretching and braiding them.

“It was a school effort of teamwork and cooperation,” said Mrs. Genewick.

The Humane Society said the dogs love their colorful new toys.

It’s not the first act of kindness delivered by these middle school students.

In February, students in Mrs. Genewick’s gifted and critical thinking classes made hearts from the pages of old library books and Chef Gaines’ culinary class baked cookies for fifth grade students at Moody Elementary.

They’re currently planning a project to thank first responders. Way to go!
