Anna Maria Elementary hosts inaugural Guy Harvey Summer at the Beach camp

In July, Anna Maria Elementary welcomed students to the first Guy Harvey Summer at the Beach camp.

During the four-day program, participating Anna Maria Elementary students from K-5th grade learned about solar science, Florida marine life, and important conservation efforts they can practice at their young age.

They dissected squids, created turtle models, and developed beautiful sun print art using cyanotype paper.

The children also participated in a beach cleanup under the careful watch of their teachers and collected a considerable amount of trash, including remnants of fireworks.

They also competed in a sandcastle building competition and a contest comparing who collected the smallest shell.

Whether they were inside the STEAM lab learning about protecting marine life, or outside collecting trash from the beach, these students certainly could “sea” the importance of caring for our beaches and our aquatic neighbors.

The School District of Manatee County works closely with the Guy Harvey Foundation to develop an art, math and science-based curriculum for Anna Maria Elementary, King Middle and Manatee High Schools.
