Hurricane Make-Up Days
Parents and Families,
Due to the number of school days lost to Hurricane Helene (3 days) and Hurricane Milton (5 days), the district determined it is necessary to schedule make-up days in order to comply with state funding and credit award requirements, while also minimizing the loss of instructional time. The School Board approved the plan below during its meeting on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
Working with representatives of the Manatee Education Association (MEA) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the district made the following adjustments to the 2024-2025 academic calendar:
November 6, 2024: Full day student attendance (previously early release)
November 11, 2024: Full day student attendance (previously no school, Veterans Day)
December 18-20, 2024: Full days student attendance (previously high school early release)
January 6, 2025: Full day student attendance (previously no school, professional learning day)
March 5, 2025: Full day student attendance (previously early release)
March 7, 2025: Early release day (previously full student attendance day)
March 14, 2025: Early release day (previously full student attendance day)
March 24, 2025: Full day student attendance (previously no student attendance, record day)
We are pleased to announce the required make-up time does not impact any extended school break - including Thanksgiving, Winter Break or Spring Break.
Because of this unique situation, Manatee will join several other districts that hold classes on Veterans Day. We will make this a special day in our schools, with all students encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. All schools will include instruction and/or events celebrating the impact of veterans on our country and community. School groups and students already scheduled to participate in Veterans Day community activities will continue to do so.
There will also be minor adjustments to class period schedules and the last day for seniors at some high school campuses. Principals at those schools will communicate needed changes to their families.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to make sure our students receive the time and instruction necessary to achieve to their highest abilities.
