Parrish Community High School is proud to introduce a new Journalism advisor: Courtney Lancaster.
Lancaster graduated from the University of South Florida in 2018 and started teaching in January of 2019. She started her career at Nolan Middle School, then joined Parrish Community High School for the 2021-2022 school year.
Growing up, her mom and two aunts were teachers, which influenced her into becoming one. English was always her favorite subject in school, and she’s always found amusement from reading. She has also always loved being creative and being able to express herself through language.
When Lancaster was younger, she said “I was the type of person that would go to sleep reading a book and wake up with the book in my lap or on the floor. I would also make word documents with stories, and now I have many drafts that I can look back on.” This year Lancaster is not only teaching the journalism course, but also 6 sections of freshmen English and she coaches the PCHS swim team.
She said that her favorite part of teaching students is when they have their lightbulb moments. This is when students are confused for a long time and then light up like a lightbulb because they finally understand something. She said this shows progress and makes it all worth it in the end. This year, Lancaster wants to take the journalism program beyond what it was and advance it in the best way possible.
