Parrish Community Supports Heritage Festival

Paige Harlow – PCHS Bulletin

On March 9, the community of Parrish joined to participate in a festival showing their pride in Parrish Heritage. The festival included a parade held along 121st Avenue on US-301, followed by a cook-off. Many organizations joined or volunteered to raise awareness about their programs and support Parrish.

Parrish Community High School was one of these organizations. Many of the school’s programs went to the festival, including JROTIC, Theatre, HOSA, the Pride of Parrish Marching Band, and the baseball and softball teams. All these programs went to get involved in the community and promote upcoming events or what their program is all about.

Parrish Community’s JROTC was involved in the parade and participated in the cook-off! Wilson says, “Our Bulls Battalion from JROTC continued with the tradition of leading the parade with our Color Guard carrying the National Flag, followed by our cadets. Additionally, after the parade, we had a number of Cadets volunteer for the Parrish Heritage Festival and Chile cook-off.”  JROTC was heavily involved in the festival and had an exciting time!

As mentioned, the PCHS Theatre Company also attended. Director of Theatre, Olga Pena, says, “The Bulls Theatre Company was there to promote their spring production: The Little Mermaid.” By attending the heritage festival, Theatre encouraged people to see their upcoming production April 4-7. On this topic, tickets are now on sale for The Little Mermaid. The link to purchase tickets is posted on their social media page and on the Parrish Community school website. Tickets are selling fast!

HOSA is a medical club for future health professionals. This club as well as the president, Emma Harlow, attended the parade to raise awareness about their club and what they do. The club advisor, April Thornton said, “We attended the parade as a group to generate community awareness that HOSA exists...to inspire anyone watching the parade to inquire about our club and potential classes that are offered at PCHS. It was a great team bonding event and an opportunity to get together outside our classroom meetings.” This was a fun and unifying event for this club and a wonderful chance to promote what they do.

The Pride of Parrish Marching band concluded their competition season in November. But they still gather to support the community throughout the year. Their drum line kept tempo as their musicians and color guard entertained the crowds.

Lastly, the baseball and softball teams also attended because their seasons are underway and going well. As known, the softball team won the state championship last year, so the pressure is on this year. What better way than to get out into the community and get involved? This was also a fantastic opportunity for the athletes to connect with each other and the community while having an enjoyable time!

This event was made for people in the community that want to get involved and show their support for Parrish Heritage. All the clubs and programs of Parrish Community High School that attended had a blast getting involved and promoting what they love. Connecting with your community is an important part of showing pride and support for where you live. The community is encouraged to attend next year to see Parrish thrive.
