Beach Volleyball Season Overview
Savannah White – PCHS Bulletin
The beach volleyball team at Parrish is fairly new, recently concluding their third season. Beach volleyball requires even more athleticism than indoor, as there are only two on each side of the sand court at a time and there is a larger playing area, increasing the level of difficulty.
Danielle Stevenson coaches both indoor and beach volleyball. This year, coaching responsibilities were shared by her mother, Cynthia Deterding, while Stevenson was out on maternity leave.
The girls beach volleyball team has been practicing hard and playing tougher this season, with their regular season record of 3-7. The team is working to better establish themselves as strong contenders in the district. They beat Lakewood Ranch HS 3-2 at the Class 1A District 19 competition on Apr. 23. Sadly, they lost their next game to Bradenton Christian on Apr. 24, bringing their season to a close with a final 4-8 record.
The Spring 2024 Team Roster:
- Emma Zagrocki
- Keara Valley
- Sarah Tluczek
- Taylor Snelling
- Sophia Nilsson
- Cecilia Nilsson
- Kayla Intrieri
- Peyton Hayworth
- Mia Davis
- Sophie Byrd
- Ellie Ferreira
From the court to the sand, these girls have been working hard all year. Coach Stevenson wanted to highlight Sophie Byrd as a standout player, who has worked extremely hard this year and been very dedicated to her team and their progress.
“My little freshman self trying out for the team would be so proud right now! I love each and every one of my teammates, and would do anything for them and my team! Volleyball has made me realize that being on the team isn’t just about skill, it’s about your mindset and attitude towards the sport.” said Byrd, regarding her shout out.
Byrd went on to explain how she's proud of the accomplishments the team has made. They beat tough rival teams for the first time this season. She hopes that the team will push each other next year as "we are only as strong as our weakest player."
