Bulls Baseball District Runner Ups, Standout Season

Maya Krone and Alyse Renda - PCHS Bulletin

The 2024 Parrish Community baseball season ended as the Class 5A District 9 runner ups and advanced to the Region 3 playoffs. The team set a goal to advance to the state championship, but they had hard challenges to face and only went as far as the regional finals. However, they are still proud of their season with Varsity ending with a 23-8 record and Junior Varsity with an 8-8 record.

Head Coach Brett Andrzejewski says, “Watching the boys grow together and build bonds on and off the field and just getting to know each one of them has been one of my favorite parts of the season.”

Assistant Coach Alex Michaud says, “Their maturity has grown over the past year as we have watched them grow up and grow together and are going to carry that onto next year.” He enjoys being around the boys every day for their different personalities.

The team had a challenging schedule this year and the coaches are proud of the rival games they won, such as sweeping Braden River High School. They also went on to beat some of the top teams in the state, which allowed them to advance to regionals with confidence.

One of their favorite games of the season was winning against Northeast High School because Keegan Duquet came back from an injury to throw a complete game and win the first regional semifinal game in school history.

The coaches recognized some of the standout players, including Troy Gutherie, Tyler Brown, Logan Maguire, and Wesley Anderson. Gutherie is one of the strongest pitchers PCHS, and the community, has seen in a long time. He signed to continue to play ball at Florida Gulf Coast University. Brown was moved up to the Varsity team late in the season for skills as a catcher. The coaches are impressed with his skills and are excited about working with him for the next two years. Maguire and Anderson were recognized as the most improved players of the season. Maguire, an outfielder, signed to play baseball for New College of Florida. Anderson is a pitcher and the only sophomore to start with the Varsity team.

Anderson said, “getting to play the sport I love with some of the best players and coaches I know is a great pleasure. It benefited me to become a better player, and all the memories we made will never be
forgotten.”

Coach Andrzejewski explained that the most accomplished feeling this season was seeing how much the kids grew together. He said, “this is the most experienced group of boys we’ve had in PCHS history.” The team is losing 10 seniors this year. To that, Andrzejewski said, “seeing these seniors grow up from when they were freshman on the team has been a really cool experience.”

In total, here are the players who have committed to college baseball:

Seniors:

  • Troy Gutherie (Florida Gulf Coast University)
  • Callin Health and Will Rawls (State College of Florida)
  • Logan Maquire (New College of Florida)
  • Jacob Traeger (Averett University)
  • Matthew Thompson (Rock Valley College)

Juniors:

  • John Masen (Florida Gulf Coast University)
  • Tyler Cripe (Navy College Program)

Hopefully, this program will continue to carry on the legacy and raise the bar to meet the state championship goal next season.
