Summer Ends, Schools Begins
PCHS Bulletin - Katelynn Edwards
On August 12, 2024, students had to quickly adjust to new schedules. No more sleeping until noon, students need to arrive promptly to avoid the traffic. Guidance counselors worked all summer to build student schedules. Test dates have been set. School expectations have been set. It is now time to focus, so students can have a successful year.
Parking
With the heavy traffic comes a bigger demand for student parking. PCHS student drivers had to obtain a parking pass before August 26. Students without a parking pass will not have permission to park on campus, as Assistant Principal Paul Champagne said, “no pass no park”. Students can find instructions to purchase a parking pass on the PCHS website.
Schedules
Some students' schedules are still being fixed, but our counselors are working hard. There are QR codes around campus that students can scan to contact their counselor. By August 26, all schedules should be finalized.
“Getting my schedule changed was fast and easy,” Freshman Lexi Brielmann said.
Testing
Ninth and tenth grade students will begin ELA FAST testing on Sept. 3 and 4 in their English class. The PSAT is also coming up; tenth graders are automatically registered, and ninth and eleventh graders can pay a small fee to register. Some students even took an SAT on Saturday, August 24.
There may be a lot of pressure from teachers, parents, the school district, and even students themselves. But there are many ways students can prepare for these tests:
- Get as much sleep as possible
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Stay hydrated
- Take your time
School Expectations
All students got IDs on Thursday, August 15. Students must always wear their ID at all times. If the ID is not worn while on campus, the student must pay five dollars to buy another one. All students were given the student handbook, and all the rules are now in place. If rules are not followed, students will receive consequences.
All of this is in place to ensure we have a successful school year.
“I’m looking forward to the soccer season and homecoming,” Freshman McKayla Kvapil said.
