Hours of Dedication to Create a Memorable Yearbook
PCHS Bulletin – Amelia Capellan
Students participating in the making of Parrish Community High School's 2024-2025 yearbook have started gathering information and pictures of events or activities that happen on or off campus. This year’s book theme will be released when yearbooks are distributed.
All students in the Digital Design (or Yearbook) class are chosen by Cary Jones. She is the commercial art, honors drawing, and AP Portfolio teacher at PCHS, in addition to running a yearbook. To work on the yearbook, students complete an application and must be able to show creativity, have experience in a prior yearbook class or have received a recommendation from another teacher, have good writing skills, and be able to operate a digital camera.
Students are assigned pages to work on based on the time of year the activity takes place and the due date. Each section of the yearbook has clear deadlines students must meet to ensure its completion by the end of the year.
Planning is ongoing and is a very time-consuming process. According to Jones: “The book is worked on intensely in class and after hours outside of school. Planning for the yearbook is extremely hard and ever-changing. We may think that one idea will work and when we put it together and see it, we end up changing the whole layout.”
The process of creating this yearbook takes long hours and dedication but can feel very fulfilling at the end.
“I think the students like being able to produce the yearbook. It is hard work, but once we put it all together, and we see the final product, there is a sense of accomplishment and pride that we were able to create a year of memories for all students to carry with them forever.” said Jones.
Contributions to the yearbook are open to other students on campus. Pictures of any school activities, spirit days, sports games, or other activities related to campus life can be submitted for approval to the yearbook.
However, there are some requirements. All photo submissions must include everyone in the photo’s full name and grade, in addition to a description of the overall photo. Anyone submitting a photo should also include their contact information in case the yearbook staff has questions.
Students can submit photos to the yearbook using the eShare website and using the code: PCHSSHARE
Dedication and business advertisements are available for families to upload and submit any photos and messages for their students. Prices go from $50 to $250.
Finally, students are encouraged to order their yearbooks early to ensure they get one. They are on sale now for $75. Yearbooks can be purchased through the following link with the PCHS code 21334: yearbookordercenter.com
