A Deep Dive into Marine Science Club

PCHS Bulletin: Paige Harlow

Marine Science Club is a lively group that is open to anyone who loves the ocean and everything under the waves! The club offers exciting events like field trips and guest speakers at their meetings. It is a fun way to meet new people and share your love of the deep blue!

The president of the Marine Science Club, Alyssa Babcock, gives a deeper look at what members of the Marine Science Club get to participate in. Babcock shares, “In the Marine Science Club, we often have guest speakers talk at our meetings. Sometimes they come in person and bring in cool things like deep sea fish, while other times they call in over zoom.”

In addition to guest speakers, the club holds outings once a month when members can catch sea creatures such as crabs and seahorses. Babcock adds, “It’s a great experience to learn about the aquatic wildlife we have in our backyard.”

The club is always busy with activities and events. On October 13, the club planned a second trip to Emerson Point where they kayaked and cleaned up trash. This opportunity is provided multiple times throughout the year.

The club also participated in a Barnes and Noble Book Fair fundraiser at UTC. It ran from October 17-20. Advisor Savannah Finley was there during the event, in her shark costume, to help advocate for the club.

Overall, Marine Science Club has several things to offer its members and keeps it fun and exciting. If interested, the club will hold their next meeting on October 29 in Finley’s room 5-211. Anyone is welcome to attend, no applications required.
