Homecoming: Flight to Fiji

PCHS Bulletin: Haley Carriker and Ari Kelley

Homecoming 2024 was supposed to kick off on Saturday, September 28 with the Flight to Fiji themed dance. However, the event was pushed back due to complications from Hurricane Helene. So, homecoming festivities started with spirit week, September 30-October 4, and concluded with the dance on Saturday, October 5 instead.

The Student Government Association has spent the start of the school year planning spirit week with dress-up themes and after-school activities, leading up to a very anticipated homecoming night where those running for Homecoming Court would be crowned.

Kalynn Devito, one of the SGA Presidents, said “It took a lot of work and preparation but in the end, it was fun.”

Monday was “Minion Monday”. Students and staff were all wearing shades of yellow to pull off their best minion attire. Unfortunately, the lip-syncing competition planned for that evening was canceled due to hurricane complications.

Tuesday was “Decade Day”, where students could dress in the decade they admired the most: 70s, 80s, 90s, or 2000s. Bright funky clothes could be seen all over campus. After school, students participated in a competitive dodgeball tournament.

Wednesday was “Clash of Classes”. Students wore their assigned colored shirts: Seniors in pink, Juniors in orange, Sophomores in blue, and Freshmen in green. After school, grade level teams were created to battle in a variety of challenges.

Thursday was “Surfs Up”. Students and staff wore tropical gear and dressed "beachy". Notable costumes were seen by staff members Bailey Lovesky and Savannah Finley, both dressed in their scuba gear.

Friday was “Parrish Out” day. Everyone wore their best Parrish Community attire and ended the day with a Parrish Community Bulls football game. The PCHS Bulls football team took home an impressive 37-7 victory. (Check out the Sports page on the Bulletin Website for more details about the game.)

During halftime, homecoming court winners were announced.

  • Freshman:  Frank Atura, Lana Kersey
  • Sophmores: Glenn Davis, Kemrie Hynson
  • Juniors: Oliver Rodgers, Alyse Renda
  • Seniors: John Keen, Makayla Chenard

Junior Princess Alyse Renda spoke about the process it took to win and said, “It took a lot of work and campaigning but in the end it paid off.”

Finally, on Saturday, the gym was transformed into a Fiji inspired landscape with flight attendants ready to take students to the packed dance floor.

Parrish Community High School's Flight to Fiji Homecoming was a major success thanks to the Student Government Association.
