Buffalo Creek Middle School teachers Katelyn Rodd and Malissa Baker are working hard to organize experiences for their students, in order to teach them empathy, compassion and leadership skills.

The students, who are members of the National Junior Honor Society, recently collected more than 1,400 pairs of socks for families who need them. Their goal was 1,000 pairs.

On Thursday, December 8th, they loaded the socks on a bus at their school in Palmetto and set out for one of the Salvation Army's locations in Bradenton. 

Ms. Rodd, students and parent volunteers served inside the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Toy Shop for several hours, to help ensure families have a merry holiday.
