Prine Elementary School is one of five schools nationwide to receive an inaugural grant to support public education music programs.

Principal Greg Sander and music teacher, Elizabeth Mata, accepted a check for $10,000 on Monday evening from AXS TV and Spectrum during a special performance by students.

The initiative, Band Together for Music Education, attributes Ms. Mata’s music classes to “effectively preparing its students for success in both life and academics”.

A press release goes on to read that Prine Elementary’s music program offers a safe environment where students can express themselves and connect to each other through collaboration, problem solving and fun.

“I am beyond grateful to Spectrum and AXS TV for selecting Prine Elementary’s music program to receive this amazing grant,” Ms. Mata said. “The music program doesn’t just make the students, the students make the music program—and this grant is a reflection of that.”

Funds from the grant will be used to purchase a set of ukuleles, new xylophones, stands and risers to make more space for student performances.

Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown was among the dignitaries attending the school celebration.

“It is truly incredible to see one of our own schools receive such a tremendous honor,” said Mayor Brown. “A quality music education builds quality kids who become quality adults, and we are excited to see the great benefits that this grant will have—not only for these students, but for classes in the future. Ms. Mata’s program is top-notch, and a proud example of what makes Bradenton such a special place.”

Other recipients of the AXS TV/Spectrum Band Together for Music Education grant include schools from Los Angeles, Dallas, Columbus (Ohio) and Jamaica (New York).
