The cafeteria was filled with heroes at Lincoln Memorial Middle School in Palmetto on Thursday morning.

A special event was held in honor of those people making a difference in the lives of Lincoln Memorial students.

Our classroom heroes - teachers and staff members - handed out Turner's doughnuts, orange juice, coffee and smiles, which was a great start to the day.

Dozens attended the breakfast, including moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings and others, all "heroes" in the eyes of their students.

Principal Ronnie King thanked the group for taking time out of their day, and for being part of a much-needed support system at home.

Volunteers from The Patterson Foundation made themselves available to speak with families about the "Digital Access for All" initiative.

Their Digital Navigator Program helps provide low-cost home internet service, devices and training for those who need it.

Finally, a special "Hero Award" was presented to the school nurse, Kerline Ilfra.

Ilfra, an LPN, is credited with performing life-saving measures on an unresponsive parent last week in the school parking lot.

When a student alerted the office there was something wrong, Nurse Ilfra administered CPR and used the AED defibrillator on the patient until paramedics arrived.

According to Principal King, her quick actions prevented the worst possible outcome.
