Several members of Buffalo Creek Middle School NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) volunteered at the Humane Society of Manatee County on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
For weeks leading up to the visit, students encouraged their peers and school staff members to donate toilet paper and paper towel rolls for the cause.
The tubes are recycled by animal shelters as enrichment toys for animals, as shown here by the adorable and adoptable Maude (dog) and Sadie (cat).

During the donation delivery to the Bradenton animal shelter, 27 students spent three hours helping make toys, sorting food donations, washing laundry and cleaning up the facility after heavy rains from Hurricane Idalia.
"Volunteering at the Humane Society was an incredible experience, for I knew I was helping the animals 'get back on their paws' and ready to find a loving home," said Palin Morris, 8th grade student and Buffalo Creek NJHS president. "This was an amazing volunteer experience that taught me so much about how my giving impacts the lives of others."
The young volunteers were accompanied by teachers, Malissa Baker and Katelyn Rodd, as well as Shirley Laliberte, the school registrar.
"It's so special to see young students giving back to their community," said Ms. Rodd. "There's no age limit on who can make an impact."
Way to go, Hawks! Be proud of making a difference.
