(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck the World Trade Center in New York.
LRHS Guardian Tim Liffey was living and working in Brooklyn as a member of the New York Police department at the time.
Terrorists of the Al-Qaeda group hijacked four airplanes, crashing two into the World Trade Center Twin Towers. The towers then collapsed to the ground.
Liffey said, “I started to get dressed, getting myself ready for work when the second plane hit the building.”
Liffey said the day still affects his life.

“I lost a handful of friends that were cops and firefighters, it’s a day that changed my life forever, being down there and seeing what happened.
“Especially when I see 9/11 stuff online, guys have been getting sick since 9/11 that have gotten cancer and other illnesses and it still hits home even 23 years later.”
Reflecting on the day Liffey stated, “I don’t take life for granted because you never know when you may not be here.”
Liffey said the dust and debris from the attack lingered for hours. “Even at one point at around 10-11 p.m., we tried to escort trucks in from Brooklyn to start pulling debris, but we couldn't see.”
