Manatee Technical College (MTC) and Southeast High School culinary students got involved in community events this weekend.
Both programs attended the 10th Annual Parrish Chili Cookoff at the Florida Railroad Museum on Saturday.
Organizers say those who got a taste of the hearty meal voted Manatee Technical College's some of the best chili in town.
Students from the Career & Technical Education program won the People's Choice Award.
Southeast High School students, under the direction of their teacher, Chef Jacque Allen, earned an Honorable Mention for their chili recipe.
On Saturday, MTC's Culinary Arts and Baking students also participated in My Hometown Fest at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.
The event raises funds for Sertoma Kids, an organization providing programs for children suffering from communication disorders.
A steady line kept the culinary students busy by serving their small plate starters and delectable desserts.
We love stories about students learning and contributing to their communities at the same time.
