Several JROTC students received an honorable visit this week from a high-ranking official from the United States Army.

Major General Ken Kamper spoke to Cadets at Bayshore High School in Bradenton on Thursday.

MG Kamper is the Commanding General of the Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

What's incredible is that Major General Kamper grew up in Manatee County.

He attended Sugg Middle and graduated from Manatee High School.

MG Kamper earned his bachelor's degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Arts from the U.S. Naval War College and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

According to the U.S. Army, MG Kamper's combat and operational experience include deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Atlantic Resolve and Operation Inherent Resolve.

His decorations include: Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge and Ranger Tab.

Talking to Bruins JROTC was a part of MG Kamper's "Senior Leader Hometown Visit" according to U.S. Army Fort Sill's Facebook page.

He also visited Lee Middle School to surprise a language arts teacher, Kelly (Wynn) Woodland, whom he grew up with.

Special thanks to Bayshore High School Principal Wendell Butler for sharing photos of MG Kamper's visit.
