Schools across Manatee County recently held events to celebrate and raise money for United Way Suncoast, a community partner of the district.

According to their website, United Way Suncoast's mission is "to provide pathways to education and financial stability that gives everyone the freedom to rise."

Our school administrators and staff will agree to do just about anything to increase donations each year.

We invite you to explore just a few of the great events for the 2022 United Way Suncoast fundraising campaign.

At Blackburn Elementary, students got the chance to run through a fun obstacle course for a small donation. Part of the fundraiser was also getting the chance to throw a 'pie' at a member of school staff.

Typically, it's not a real pie, but a plate covered in whipped cream. Kudos to Principal Delk and her team for being good sports. Oh, what fun!

A successful fundraiser left school administrators covered in slime at Palmetto High School. Students and staff raised almost $650 in just three days, so Principal DeLesline and her assistant principals, Ms. Brown, Mr. Bradshaw and Mr. Simmons suited up in ponchos.

Braden River Middle hosted a Student vs. Faculty basketball fundraiser. If you're wondering who came out on top, it was the teachers, 70-59. But the real winner is the entire student body, who donated more than $1,000 to the cause.

Louise R. Johnson K-8 School raised nearly $950 for United Way Suncoast. They celebrated by hosting a "Pi Day" event for students. Principal Losada and math teacher, Mrs. Sloman, ended up with "pie" all over their faces. All in good fun!

Miss Le worked hard at Oneco Elementary to collect change and win the "Pie in the Face Challenge". She and Ms. VanDyke's team raised more than $250, so they claimed victory - and received a messy reward. Their entire school raised $788 for United Way Suncoast.

Finally, Ms. Candelora’s fifth grade class at Samoset Elementary got the chance to use duct tape and stick Principal Mason to the wall. Their class raised the most at school for the fundraiser.

United Way Suncoast provides school readiness and grade-level reading initiatives for our students and helps college-bound students apply for scholarships.

No word yet about how much was raised in total by Manatee County schools.
