MTC HOSA good news

Manatee Technical College students won medals in two state career and technical student organization competitions and were inducted into two national honor societies this month.

Two students brought home medals from the 2022 Florida HOSA State Leadership Conference in Orlando April 9-12, and 27 students medaled at the SkillsUSA Florida 2022 State Leadership and Skills Conference in Jacksonville April 18-21. At FL-HOSA, a student organization for Future Health Professionals, Jesus Capriles won first place in Dental Terminology in the college division. Capriles will advance to the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Nashville, June 22-25.

Three GED and five ESOL students were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society (NAEHS), and 44 postsecondary students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at a joint induction ceremony at MTC on April 12, 2022. The 44 students inducted into the NTHS are among the fewer than two percent of America’s secondary and postsecondary students that are nominated for membership.  

At FL-SkillsUSA, 11 students won first place; 10 came in second, and 6 took third place. Of the 27 medalists, 24 were in the college division, and three were in the high- school division. First-place winners will compete in the SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta, June 20-25. 

A local business, Tri-County Air, donated tools to MTC students competing in HVAC at FL-Skills USA. Ammon Partida (center) won third place in the high school division.
