Palma Sola Pen Pals 33

The weather was perfect for meeting a new friend, or a pen pal, which is the case at Palma Sola Elementary.

Members of the Palma Sola Presbyterian Church were invited to the west Bradenton school today.

They've been corresponding with second graders for months - some had five pen pals, some only one.

Today, the students showed off their singing and acting in a courtyard performance that erupted in applause.

Afterwards, a photo with their friends and a bit of conversation.

"What's your favorite cereal? Tell me about your favorite movie. What do you want to be when you grow up?"

The topics were provided by the school, along with a snack of mini muffins and cheez-its.

Some of the church members are former educators - or talked about their grandchildren, who used to attend the very same school.

All were grateful for the hand drawn cards and gifts they received before leaving.

The partnership between the school and the nearby church is an annual tradition - but this is the first meet-up since the start of the pandemic.

Even the teachers were excited, some putting a name to a specific letter, proud their students are learning to build relationships with others.
