Soar in 4 Library Corner 4

There's a new space inside Manate County's five library branches to encourage learning and engagement in literacy activities.

Soar in 4 Manatee collaborated with Manatee County Libraries to build "Library Corners".

Early learning families, teachers and community partners joined together on Friday to celebrate at the Braden River branch library.

"Young children learn best through hands-on activities," said Dr. Sheila Halpin, Volunteer Coordinator / Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. "This meaningful play area within the public library will allow families to create and learn while making memories."

The colorful corners include a magnetic white board and letters for kids to build their vocabulary.

There's also an engineering coaster activity and gears for young engineers to play.

Dozens of new books are featured in the library corners, which are spotlighted by the Soar in 4 program.

Soar in 4 is hosting a monthly read aloud event and literacy engagement activity at each library branch.

Today, kids read the book "Water Rolls, Water Rises" and took home their own watercolor paint set to continue exploring with water at home.

Amanda Quirino, a paraprofessional from Blackburn Elementary School, told us that Soar in 4 has helped her daughters grow.

"It has definitely helped me become a better mom - and learn to be the teacher that I hope to be one day," said Ms. Quirino, who is finishing up courses at State College of Florida to become a teacher.

Soar in 4 also hosts monthly events at The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature.
