A heartfelt gesture by Braden River Middle students is benefiting some residents of an assisted living facility.
Members of the school's FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter made gifts for The Sheridan at Lakewood Ranch.
The handsewn bibs were donated to The Sheridan's Memory Care program in honor of Dorothy Haywood, a resident who passed away in March.
Haywood was the mother of Braden River Middle School's longtime teacher and FCCLA advisor, Jill Bergeron.
"Not all residents need bibs, but when they do - they're great for protecting clothing," said Bergeron. "We picked fabrics for everyday use - and some that would be nice for men to wear."
Alanna Hall, who served as chapter president, recently presented the project at the National FCCLA Conference, June 29-July 3, in San Diego.
She earned a silver medal for the project portfolio and presentation. Hall is attending Braden River High School this fall.
Braden River Middle School's FCCLA chapter adopted The Sheridan at Lakewood Ranch throughout the school year, providing stockings and gifts at Christmas, along with cards and cookies for Valentine's Day.
