Principal Anthony Losada and his team are excited about the 2022-23 school year. They welcomed families on Monday to the Johnson K-8 Jubilee.
Smiling staff members awaited as students streamed into the gymnasium carrying bags filled with new school supplies.
There was a tremendous turnout, despite stormy skies outside.
Tables around the gym offered information about PTO and upcoming school events, SAC (Student Advisory Council), before and after-care, food and nutrition services, art programs and the chance to meet Johnson K-8’s School Resource Officer.
For newcomers, there were many questions. For others, it was a reunion of sorts.
PTO President Kendra Wingate greeted her former high school classmate, Tarshay Singleton, who serves as a dean at Manatee High.
Both women have students entering 7th grade.
After introducing assistant principals Adrienne Vos (grades K-5) and Dr. Lisandra Tayloe (grades 6-8), Mr. Losada welcomed families into the school to get acclimated before the first day, August 10th.
New and returning students walked the halls, green schedules in hand, while carefully planning their routes between classes.
Johnson K-8 is the only 100% choice school in Manatee County, as well as being an International Baccalaureate World School.
The PYP Programme (Primary Years, K-5) challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues.
The MYP Programme (Middle Years, 6-8) encourages students to be creative, critical and reflective thinkers as they make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world.
After exploring their new classrooms, families were invited to enjoy a cool treat with Kona Ice, capture fun photos, get face painting and more.
The sky’s the limit for these reflective thinkers. Have a great school year, Johnson K-8!
