A sizable crowd of fifth grade students, their parents and family members, showed up at Lincoln Memorial Middle School on Tuesday evening, March 28, 2023, to tour the school and learn about exciting elective courses the school has to offer.
Principal Ronnie King, Assistant Principal Irene Nikitopoulos and a smiling group of staff members greeted the families as they arrived and were treated to cookies and iced tea in the cafeteria. Mr. King gave an overview of Lincoln Memorial’s historical background and expectations for today’s students to continue the school’s proud legacy.
The visitors were broken into groups and led on a tour of the school, with stops at the following classrooms or educational areas: Agriculture (Instructors Patrick Miller and Emily Ralston), Arts (Dana Sackett), Band (Braun Balsai), Engineering (Tamya Robinson-Burrell), English Language Arts (Melissa MacGregor), Media Center (Erica Bruton), Medical Magnet classroom (Kelsey Grabiak and Crista McGraw), and Science (Michael Siberon).
The stop at the Agriculture area was a popular one thanks to a newly expanded barn. The visiting students got to pet cows, a goat, a rabbit and watch a rooster and chickens clucking around.
“The expansion of the barn and agricultural area will allow the program to have more animals and more hands-on participation from the students,” said Mr. Miller, who is retiring at the end of this year. “I was grateful to be a part of the building process and I know it will grow under this administration and the new agricultural teacher, Ms. Ralston.”
Other favorite stops included the Band room, with videos of the school’s drumlines in action; the Medical Magnet classroom with life-like mannequins and an Anatomage Table that allows students to realistically explore the inside of the human body; and the Engineering Lab, with VEX Robotics and a 3D printer.
Students and families left with smiles on their faces, and an excellent idea of the educational opportunities available at Lincoln Memorial Middle.
