On Thursday, fourth graders from Manatee County learned a lesson about first impressions and explored future careers.
The Manatee Chamber of Commerce recruited volunteers for Project TEACH – Teach Everyone About Career Horizons.
The volunteers, from public and private sectors, met for an orientation breakfast at Wakeland Support Center before driving to their designated school.
Once there, they asked the students to answer a list of questions about the presenter:
How old do you think I am?
Do I have kids?
What kind of car do I drive?
Do I have any pets?
What’s my favorite fast food?
What’s my educational background?
What’s my job?
Afterwards, the group had a discussion about exploring career options.
Communications Specialist Melissa Parker visited Lisa Cavener’s class at Louise R. Johnson K-8 School of International Studies.
The students were excited and thoughtful about their plans for the future.
They are future nurses, doctors, entrepreneurs, illustrators, graphic novelists, culinary artists, hair stylists, fashion designers, professional athletes and musicians, adoption counselors, lawyers and influencers.
Tonight, they’ll bring home their first business cards which were created during the exercise.
